I cant’ close my eyes and make it go away…
While walking around Union Square today (on the way back from pickin’ up mail) I witnessed a horrid accident: a jeep ran over a pedestrian! The jeep was making making a turn from 14th onto Park Ave. Luckly (?) for the injured pedestrian, he was run-over a few doors south of Beth Israel Medical Center; medical attention literally ran to his aide.
The man that was hit, was in his late 50’s, possibly 60’s. He seemed rather tall and frail to begin with - I expect from the impact that he’s either in critical condition or worse. My friend’s husband works as a EMT at Beth Israel, I’ll make a post in the near future of the man’s well being, when I ask him.
FYI: This has been my second major NYC accident that I have seen (last year I witnessed a man falling/jumping off a building, and landing few feet infront of me on the sidewalk).
Well, not going to continue on this subject for much longer - but I felt really bad for the injured. I haven’t refined my thoughts of personal car usages in Manhattan, during the working hours .. however, there’s enough public transportation to get around (not to mention the ozone warnings consistantly in effect). People, please leave your cars at home, or park them in the outter limits (UES, UWS) and take public transportation within the city. Leave the roads clear for delivery vans, trucks, ambulances and j-walking-cellphone-toting-pedestrians.
